1 lb ( 500 g) ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup ( 50 mL) fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
1/2 tsp ( 2 mL) salt
1/4 tsp ( 1 mL) ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ( 1 mL) Tabasco
4 hamburger buns
cucumber salsa
1. Oil grill and preheat barbecue. Place beef in a large mixing bowl. Add onion, basil and seasonings. Work meat with a fork or your hands until well mixed. Form into 4 burgers, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick. Place on barbecue and grill until done as you like, about 7 to 8 minutes per side for medium-well. Serve in our Old-fashioned hamburger buns (this recipe is also available in the Recipe File) topped with cucumber salsa.
